Pastured Organic Broilers
Our chicks go out to pasture at 2 to 3 weeks of age, depending on the weather. They are offered organic feed (a mixture of corn and soy beans or coconut fiber), but are also free to graze grass and forbs, as well as the bugs and worms (extra protein!) found in our organic pastures. They're happy chicks, able to soak in the sunshine and to chase after bugs for exercise! They are penned in only at night to protect them from predators. (What a far cry from commercial broilers, the kind you buy at the grocery store, which are crowded by the thousands into windowless sheds, bumping up against one another and never even having the opportunity to see daylight!)
Because of their healthy, natural environment, our chicks are not prone to contracting diseases and are never treated with antibiotics that commercial poultry need to survive.
You'll enjoy the substantial texture (no flab!) that these natural birds contribute to your meal, as well as true, old-fashioned chicken flavor!
Our broilers dress out at 3 to 5 pounds. You can purchase them for $2.75/lb., plus a processing charge of $1.35/bird.
It's very helpful to us if you place your broiler order by June 15 so we can gauge how many birds to raise. When you place your order, please enclose a check in the amount of $1.35 per bird. (For example, if you wish to order two chickens, the check would be in the amount of $2.70.) Make the check out directly to the processor, JOE SCHROCK. This check, non-refundable, will confirm your order.
Broilers will be available at the farm from July through October. Please call or email when you have a convenient pick up date in mind.
